Rishton Wooden Garden Gates Suppliers

Choosing Your Rishton Wooden Garden Gates Suppliers

Rishton sits between Blackburn and Accrington, with the Leeds and Liverpool Canal running through the middle of town. Older streets are lined with stone and brick terraces, each with a small back yard. Meanwhile, newer estates around the edges have semis and detached homes with side passages and larger gardens.

As Rishton wooden garden gates suppliers, we supply both. However, the two types of home usually need quite different gates.

Back Yard Gates on Terraced Streets

A terraced back yard gate opens straight onto a back street. Therefore, it needs to be solid, full height and lockable. Our tongue and groove gate measures 0.9m x 1.8m and gives a smooth, closed face that nobody can see through.

Fit it with the ring gate latch kit. It includes a pair of 16 inch tee hinges, a 6 inch ring latch and a 6 inch Brenton padbolt. You can then bolt the gate from inside the yard at night.

Side Gates on Newer Estates

On the newer estates, the side gate between the house and the boundary gets used all day. A feather edge gate matches the feather edge panels many developers fit. For convenience, add the auto gate catch kit, which closes the gate behind you. It is one of the questions we answer most often as Rishton wooden garden gates suppliers.

That self-closing action matters for families with dogs or young children. Our guide to creating a secure garden for pets covers the rest of the boundary too.

Gardens Near the Canal

Homes close to the canal towpath often want a gate that blends in but still keeps walkers and dogs out. A full height gate with no gaps does that well. Furthermore, it stops the garden becoming a short cut for anyone heading to the water.

Low-lying gardens near the canal can stay damp in winter. So check that your gate posts are sound before hanging a new gate. A soft post at ground level will let even a new gate drop.

Choosing Between Arched and Flat Tops

Flat-topped gates suit modern homes and brick walls. Arched gates, by contrast, soften the line against older stone terraces. Our arched feather edge and arched tongue and groove gates use the curved gate hinge set, a pair of 12 inch curved hinges in left or right handed versions. See the full traditional garden gates range for every style. Most of our customers who use us as Rishton wooden garden gates suppliers choose this option.

Measuring and Fitting

Measure between your posts at the top, middle and bottom, then use the smallest figure. Leave a small gap at the hinge side and a slightly bigger one at the latch side. That way, the gate will not stick when the timber swells after rain. Our guide on how to fit a gate takes you through hanging it.
